Francesco De Maio Ceramica Vietri Antico Antiche Fornaci D'Agostino La Tavolozza Vietrese

In order to keep alive and pass on an antique family tradition, expressed through unique and one of a kind colours and shapes, in 1963, Ceramica di Vietri Francesco De Maio was founded. This is a factory that is distinguished by its hand-decorated ceramics, such as the so-called "Riggiole Vietresi", which are rich in colour and varied in form.
The surface of the hand-made cotto is painted with a polychrome glaze, in Byzantine, Arabesque, Renaissance and Baroque motifs, that decorate walls of ancient residences, churches and sparse monasteries all along Mediterranean coastlines.
Deriving warm colours from nature of these areas, a chromatic scale for ceramics was created by Francesco De Maio, to decorate and embellish today's living spaces.
All decorations are hand-painted on non-fired glaze. The famous "Bianco Vietri", is made up of an exclusive mixture of minerals and white sand, following an antique formula that has been passed down by former generations of artists. The expert hand of Vietri master decorators is immediately identifiable by simple looking at the various shapes and designs that have been painted delicately on the glaze. These masters have undoubtedly contributed to the conservation of traditional Vietri ceramic workmanship.
